IPL 2025: Who won yesterday's game between GT vs MI?

Mumbai Indians (MI) knocked out Gujarat Titans (GT) from the IPL 2025 as they defeated Shubman Gill and his side by 20 runs in the Eliminator on 30 May in Mullanpur. MI’s Rohit Sharma was named the Player of the Match for his 81-run knock off 50 balls.

After winning the toss, MI skipper Hardik Pandya decided to bat first. Rohit came out to open the innings with Jonny Bairstow, who was playing his first game in this edition and also making his debut for MI. Both of them managed a good start, adding 84 runs in 7.2 overs for the first wicket.

Bairstow got out for 47 off 22, and then Suryakumar Yadav joined Rohit in the middle. They stitched 59 runs for the second wicket, as Suryakumar lost his wicket for 33 off 20. Rohit was looking solid to reach the three-digit mark but ended up scoring 81 off 50.

In the end, Tilak Varma’s 25 off 11 and Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 22 off nine balls were crucial as MI posted 228/5 in 20 overs. For GT, both Sai Kishore and Prasidh Krishna bagged two wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj took one.

Let’s take a look at GT’s Chase

In reply, it was a disastrous start for GT as they lost their captain, Shubman Gill, for just one run in the first over. Then, on his IPL debut, Kusal Mendis came out to bat and looked in good touch until his innings came to an end at 20 runs off 10 balls. It was unfortunate that he, on his debut, got out hit-wicket.

Then, at number four, Washington Sundar played a blinder of an innings, scoring 48 off 24 and stitching an 84-run partnership for the third wicket with Sudharsan. Things were looking under control as long as Sudharsan was there, but he got out on 80 off 49.

After that, Sherfane Rutherford (24 off 15), Rahul Tewatia (16* off 11), and M. Shahrukh Khan (13 off seven) tried their best, but it was not enough to reach the mammoth target of 229, as GT managed only 208/6 in 20 overs.

For MI, Trent Boult bagged two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Richard Gleeson, Mitchell Santner, and Ashwani Kumar took one wicket each. With this result, GT’s journey in IPL 2025 came to an end, while MI will now play against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad on 1 June.
