Delhi Capitals (DC) registered a thrilling Super Over win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing IPL 2025. After the match was tied, RR set a target of 12 runs in the Super Over, which DC chased down in four balls to bag the win. DC’s Mitchell Starc won the Player of the Match award for his brilliant death-over bowling.
After winning the toss, RR skipper Sanju Samson opted to bowl first. For DC, both Jake Fraser-McGurk and Karun Nair failed cheaply, but Abhishek Porel shone with a 49-run knock off 37 balls. Then, KL Rahul also added 38 runs but in 32 balls.
In the end, quickfire cameos from Tristan Stubbs (34* off 18) and captain Axar Patel (34 off 14) helped DC post 188/5 in 20 overs. For RR, Jofra Archer took two wickets, while both Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana bagged one each.
Let’s take a look at RR’s chase
In reply, RR had a fantastic start, courtesy of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson. They added 61 runs for the first wicket, but unfortunately, Samson was forced to retire hurt after his 31 (19). Jaiswal continued as he smashed 51 (37), and Nitish Rana also supported him well with his 51-run knock off 28 balls at a strike rate of 182.14.
In the end, Dhruv Jurel (26 off 17) and Shimron Hetmyer (15* off nine) came up with some significant contributions, but all they managed was to tie the game as they also reached 188/4 in 20 overs.
In the last over, they needed nine runs, but Mitchell Starc’s brilliant death bowling prevented them from crossing the final line. Starc, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav bagged one wicket each.
Then, RR came out to bat in the Super Over, but again, it was Starc who bowled superbly under pressure as RR scored 11/2 in five balls. Hetmyer remained not out on six off three balls, while Riyan Parag scored four off two. In reply, both Rahul and Stubbs smashed 13 off just four balls to seal the win, while Sandeep Sharma was bowling for RR.
With this win, DC are in the top spot now with five wins in six games, 10 points, and a net run rate of +0.744. RR are now in the eighth spot with four points in seven games and a net run rate of -0.714. DC’s next game is against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on 19 April, while RR will face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Jaipur on 19 April.
