CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and opted to bowl first. MI had a poor start as Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a four-ball duck. Ryan Rickelton (13 off 7) and Will Jacks (11 off 7) also fell cheaply, leaving MI struggling at 36/3 in 4.4 overs.

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav (29 off 26) and Tilak Varma (31 off 25) tried to stabilise the innings with a 51-run stand for the fourth wicket, but neither could convert their start into a big score. MI kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 128/8 in 18 overs.

However, Deepak Chahar played a crucial late cameo, scoring 28* off 15 balls, helping MI post 155/9 in 20 overs. For CSK, Noor Ahmad was the standout bowler, taking 4/18 in his four overs. Khaleel Ahmad also struck early with two wickets and later returned for another. Nathan Ellis and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up a wicket each.

Let’s take a look at CSK’s chase

CSK’s chase began with Rachin Ravindra and Rahul Tripathi opening the innings, but MI struck early, dismissing Tripathi for just two runs. However, Gaikwad counter-attacked brilliantly, smashing 53 off 26 balls. He and Ravindra added 67 runs in just 6.1 overs.

To turn the game, MI introduced 23-year-old Kerala spinner Vignesh Puthur as an impact player in place of Rohit Sharma, and the youngster made an instant impact. He dismissed the dangerous Gaikwad and later removed Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda, reducing CSK to 116/5.

Sensing an opportunity, MI fought back, but Ravindra (65* off 45) held his nerve alongside Ravindra Jadeja (17 off 18), adding a crucial 36-run stand in 4.3 overs. Jadeja fell near the end, but the Kiwi opener stayed unbeaten to guide CSK home. For MI, Vignesh impressed while Chahar and Jacks picked up one wicket each.
