Delhi Capitals (DC) made it three wins in three games in the ongoing IPL 2025, defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 25 runs in Chennai. DC’s KL Rahul was named Player of the Match for his 77-run knock.
Before the match, rumours suggested that MS Dhoni might lead CSK if Ruturaj Gaikwad missed out due to injury. However, Ruturaj came out for the toss. DC skipper Axar Patel won the toss and chose to bat first.
KL Rahul opened the innings and played a solid knock of 77 off 51 balls. He got out in the last over, but before that, he built two key partnerships. He added 54 runs for the second wicket with Abishek Porel (33 off 20) and 56 runs for the fourth wicket with Sameer Rizvi (20 off 15).
Axar also chipped in with 21 off 14, while Tristan Stubbs finished strong with an unbeaten 24 off 12. DC posted a total of 183/6 in their 20 overs. For CSK, Khaleel Ahmed picked up two wickets. Ravindra Jadeja, Noor Ahmad, and Matheesha Pathirana took one wicket each.
Let’s take a look at CSK’s chase
In reply, CSK lost three early wickets in the powerplay. Devon Conway scored 13 off 14, Ruturaj managed just five off four, and Rachin Ravindra fell for three off six balls. Shivam Dube also failed to make a big impact, scoring 18 off 15.
Vijay Shankar remained unbeaten on 69 off 54 balls, but he lacked the intent needed during the chase. Though he hit a few boundaries late in the innings, it was too late to change the outcome. MS Dhoni also stayed not out with 30 off 26 balls. In the end, CSK fell short by 25 runs.
For DC, Vipraj Nigam took two wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, and Mitchell Starc claimed one wicket each. With this win, DC now sit at the top of the points table with six points and a net run rate of +1.257.
On the other hand, CSK have just two points from four games and are in eighth place with a net run rate of -0.891. DC will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) next on April 10 in Bengaluru. CSK’s next match is against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mullanpur on April 8.
