The race to win the purple cap has become even more intense after the 63rd match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. The match took place at the Wankhede Stadium which saw the five-time champions seal the fourth playoff position with a clinical effort.

MI won by 59 runs as they successfully defended the target of 181 runs on a sluggish surface. Their bowlers, including Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah, stepped up yet again picking up one and three wickets respectively. Mitchell Santner was also at his best, accounting for three scalps.
Boult was crucial up front with the new ball as he took a crucial wicket of KL Rahul who became his 19th scalp of IPL 2025. With this wicket, he climbed to the third position in the list of bowlers to pick the most wickets this season. He has 19 wickets so far at an economy rate of 8.38.
Another major change on the list was Jasprit Bumrah’s entry at sixth place in the purple cap race after picking up a brilliant three-wicket haul. He has been arguably the most economical bowler of the season, having conceded only 6.39 runs per over so far. He has also accounted for 16 wickets so far in nine matches and is only five wickets behind the purple cap holder Prasidh Krishna of Gujarat Titans.
