Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings won their respective matches on the double-header day in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday (May 4). KKR defeated Rajasthan Royals by just one run in a thriller, while Punjab ended their 12-year drought to win for the first time in Dharamsala, beating Lucknow Super Giants by 37 runs.
With this win, for the first time since 2014, PBKS crossed the 14-point mark in the IPL. They had reached the final in 2014 by topping the points table with 22 points. But for now, with 15 points, they are in second place after 11 matches and look well set to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in 11 years.
Meanwhile, KKR stayed alive in the tournament with a thrilling last-ball win over the Royals at the Eden Gardens. They defended 206 runs successfully and have jumped to the sixth place in the points table with 11 points to their name with five wins after 11 matches so far.
LSG, led by Rishabh Pant, have slipped to seventh place after losing their third consecutive match. They have 10 points after 11 matches and will now need to win their remaining three matches to have any chance of making it to the top four.
As for the Royals, they remained in eighth place after their ninth loss of the season. After 12 matches, they have only six points and have already been knocked out of the tournament.
