IPL 2025: Updated points table after KKR vs GT Match 39

Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) struggle at home continued as Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated them by 39 runs at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, in the 39th match of the ongoing IPL 2025. After winning the toss, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane asked GT to bat first, and they grabbed that invitation with both hands by posting a competitive total of 198/3 in 20 overs on the board.

Sai Sudharsan continued to impress in this IPL with his surreal consistency as he smashed another fifty in this game. He also stitched a 114-run partnership with skipper Shubman Gill for the first wicket and set the stage for the upcoming batters. Gill also impressed in his 90-run knock off 55 balls, at a strike rate of 163.63. 

Jos Buttler, at number three, again showed his importance with an unbeaten knock of 41 (23). For the home side, spinners failed to take even a single wicket as Andre Russell, Vaibhav Arora, and Harshit Rana picked up one wicket each.

In reply, the inclusion of Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the Playing XI did not work in favour of KKR as he scored only one. Sunil Narine also departed after scoring 17 (13). Batters like Rinku Singh, Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell, and Ramandeep Singh failed again as they even struggled to time the balls.

As the match progressed, the pitch seemed to favour spinners as GT’s spin trio of Sai Kishore, Washington Sundar, and Rashid Khan was getting purchase from the deck. Only Rahane (50 off 36) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (27* off 13) at number nine, the impact player, were the bright spots for KKR with the bat as they managed 159/8 in 20 overs and suffered their fifth loss of this season. 

With this result, the defending champions are now struggling at the seventh spot with just three wins in eight games, while GT are strengthening their position at the top with their sixth win in eight games.
