The race to make it to the playoffs of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season is getting intense with every passing day. Gujarat Titans jumped to second position on Friday (May 2) with a solid 38-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 51st match of the edition.
It was yet another comprehensive performance from the Titans with their top three setting up the tone with the bat. After losing the toss, their openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan added 87 runs for the first wicket in just 6.5 overs. The latter got out on 48 off 23 balls but things only got worse for SRH as Jos Buttler came out with the same intent.
He smashed 64 runs off 37 balls while Gill scored 76 runs off 38 deliveries before getting out to propel GT to 224 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. In response, SRH were a no match to their opponents as their innings came to a conclusion at 186/6 in 20 overs.
This win has firmly put the Titans in the second place tied on points with table toppers Mumbai Indians and third placed Royal Challengers Bengaluru. These three teams have seven wins this season while Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals are in fourth and fifth places respectively.
Meanwhile, SRH have been more or less knocked out of the tournament as they succumbed to their seventh loss this season and are languishing in the ninth place.
