Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) continued their winning run in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday (May 3). They won the thriller against the Chennai Super Kings by just two runs and have jumped to the top of the points table. RCB also have one foot in the playoffs as they now have eight wins from 11 matches.
As for the match, Jacob Bethell and Virat Kohli opened the innings and got the team off to a flyer. Both of them scored their respective fifties but once they were dismissed, RCB lost all the momentum in the innings. It seemed that they would finish well below the 200-run mark. But Romario Shepherd had other ideas. He slammed a 14-ball half-century, much to the delight of the RCB fans, to take them to 213 runs in their 20 overs.
CSK finally showed some intent in the powerplay courtesy of Ayush Mhatre who scored 94 runs off 48 deliveries. Ravindra Jadeja supported him well, scoring an unbeaten 77 off 45 balls but CSK fell short in the end by just two runs, succumbing to their ninth loss of the season.
As far as the players to score the most runs this season, Virat Kohli has got back to the Orange Cap, having amassed 505 runs and notched up his seventh fifty of the season. There is no change from the previous match in the rest of the top 10 of this list.
With Kohli climbing to the top, the likes of Sai Sudharsan, Suryakumar Yadav, Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill have slipped a place each. None of the players are featuring in the double header on Sunday (May 4) and the top five list might not change much.
Four players who are contenders to win the Orange Cap are in action on Sunday. Nicholas Pooran, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mitchell Marsh and Shreyas Iyer will be in action on climbing the ladder now and give tough competition to the top five on this list.
