The Orange Cap race in IPL 2025 is heating up as the tournament enters a crucial mid-season phase. Match 27 between Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad not only delivered a spectacular contest with over 480 runs scored but also resulted in major shifts in the Orange Cap standings. Several batters showcased elite-level hitting, causing a shake-up in the top 10 run-getters of the season so far.
Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a historic run-chase of 246, thanks to Abhishek Sharma's unreal 141-run blitz. While his name doesn't feature in the top 10 just yet, his innings could be the start of a serious Orange Cap push. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants’ Nicholas Pooran continues to retain the Orange Cap, now with 349 runs in 6 matches. Pooran has been a pillar of consistency for LSG, scoring at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 215.43. His 31 sixes in the season so far are unmatched, underlining his role as the most destructive finisher in the league.
Just behind him is Gujarat Titans’ B Sai Sudharsan, who has emerged as the backbone of GT’s batting order. With 329 runs in 6 matches at a strike rate of 151.61, Sudharsan has shown great maturity and shot selection. Although he is yet to score a century, four half-centuries demonstrate his reliability at the top of the order.
Lucknow’s Mitchell Marsh follows at number three with 265 runs from 5 games. His dynamic approach at the top and a healthy strike rate of 180.27 make him one of the most valuable players in the tournament.
Shreyas Iyer from Punjab Kings has climbed to fourth after a blazing 82-run knock in the last match. With 250 runs from 5 matches and a strike rate of over 208, Iyer is blending classical technique with ruthless acceleration. His 20 sixes show how he's reinvented himself this season.
Other players in the top 10 include Jos Buttler (GT), Travis Head (SRH), Shubman Gill (GT), Ajinkya Rahane (KKR), Aiden Markram (LSG), and Suryakumar Yadav (MI), each of whom has passed the 200-run mark or is closing in fast.
With multiple players scoring over 200 runs and striking at 150+ rates, the Orange Cap leaderboard is incredibly competitive. As the IPL 2025 progresses, expect more reshuffling in the top 10 as in-form batters like Abhishek Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Sanju Samson chase the leaders.
