The race for the coveted Orange Cap in IPL 2025 continues to intensify as the league moves past the halfway mark. After Match 29 between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, where MI triumphed by 12 runs in a high-scoring thriller, the batting charts have witnessed some interesting developments though the top order remains mostly unchanged.
Nicholas Pooran of Lucknow Super Giants continues to hold onto the Orange Cap, having amassed a staggering 349 runs from 6 matches at an astronomical strike rate of 215.43. His aggressive intent and consistency have made him the most dangerous finisher of the season so far, with 31 sixes, the highest by any batter.
Close on his heels is B Sai Sudharsan from Gujarat Titans, who has been a picture of elegance and stability at the top. With 329 runs in 6 matches at a strike rate of 151.61, Sudharsan is proving to be GT’s most dependable run-getter this season.
Mitchell Marsh, also from Lucknow, holds the third position with 265 runs in just 5 matches, boasting a strike rate of 180.27. His combination of power and placement makes him a perfect complement to Pooran in the middle order.
Shreyas Iyer of Punjab Kings moved to fourth with 250 runs in 5 matches. His unbeaten 82 against SRH and consistent form have been critical for PBKS’s playoff push. Not far behind is Virat Kohli, who continues to be the engine of RCB’s top order. With 248 runs at a steady average and a strike rate of 143.35, Kohli’s role has been to anchor innings, allowing the likes of Philip Salt to play freely.
Jos Buttler, Travis Head, and Philip Salt occupy the 6th to 8th spots, all crossing the 200-run mark and playing vital roles for their respective sides. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane round off the top 10 with 208 and 204 runs respectively.
Interestingly, no centurion has emerged yet in the top 10, highlighting the fast-paced nature of the tournament where cameos and quick-fire fifties are often more valuable than big hundreds.
As the league heads into its second half, expect this list to keep reshuffling with every match. With multiple batters in sublime form, the Orange Cap race is heating up and promises plenty more action in the coming weeks.
