IPL 2025: Shikhar Dhawan reveals his title winner & it’s not RCB

Former Indian opening batter Shikhar Dhawan feels Mumbai Indians are the title favorites in this edition of the Indian Premier League. Notably, the Mumbai Indians are scheduled to take on the Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, June 1.

Prior to this, Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, defeated the Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the Eliminator to make it the second qualifier. Dhawan feels MI has a balanced squad this time around and is a strong favorite to lift the record sixth IPL title.

“This time, the IPL has been very exciting. For the finals, my support will be with Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai Indians team is playing really well — they are very balanced. The way they've gained momentum is outstanding, and they are a very strong and well-balanced team. So, I'm with Mumbai Indians,” Dhawan said as quoted by India Today.

Furthermore, Dhawan also had his say on the BCCI Selection Committee announcing Shubman Gill as the new captain of the Indian Test team for the England tour. The former Indian opener felt Gill would emerge as the perfect candidate to replace Rohit as the Test captain.

“I feel it's a great choice. Shubman has performed really well in the IPL recently. He is a great talent and has matured — he’s been playing for the Indian team for several years now. I feel he’s the perfect candidate to take on the Test captaincy, and I’m sure he will handle it well and lead the team together. This is the new generation now — Gen Z — and I’m confident he’ll do a great job. All my best wishes to him," Dhawan said.
