IPL 2025: RR SWOT Analysis

IPL 2008 winners and IPL 2022 finalists Rajasthan Royals had a gala time at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Rajasthan had the lowest bid of Rs 41 crore going into the auction, but the team managed to get 14 players and still had Rs 30 lakh left over.

They had retained 5 players Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Shimron Hetmyer. Sandeep Sharma was the sixth player retained by RR as an uncapped player.

Rajasthan paid Rs 12.5 crore to acquire England's lethal fast bowler Jofra Archer. The Rajasthan Royals, one of the top favorites to win the IPL, are looking very strong after the players they bought and kept.

Rajasthan Royals Strengths:

Rajasthan Royals had retained their core of players in Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sandeep Sharma, Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Shimron Hetmyer. They bought some big names in the IPL auction, like Jofra Archer, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Fazalhaq Farooqi, strengthening their chances of winning the title in 2025. Nitish Rana will give immense support to Parag and Nitish in the batting lineup.

RR has one of the best spin options in the IPL with Hasaranga, Theekshana, and Kumar Karthikeya. With assistance from Nitish Rana and Riyan Parag, RR’s pacer attack will be led by Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma. They have young Indian stars like Tushar Deshpande, Yudhvir Singh, and Akash Madhwal.

Rajasthan Royals Weaknesses:

Rajasthan Royals’ biggest weakness is that they do not have the required backups for their prime batters, pacers, and spinners. Their batting lineup also doesn’t have the depth of the previous few seasons. Jos Buttler’s departure has hurt the RR batting the most.

If any first-choice hitters are hurt or unavailable, RR will have a hard time finding replacements, which will reduce their chances of hitting certain high-scoring targets. Both of their foreign bowlers are vulnerable and could falter at any time because of their injury history.

Rajasthan Royals Opportunities:

With some of the players who were the rock of RR previously gone, the retained players will have the opportunity to step up. The middle order of Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, and Riyan Parag will have more chances to shine now that Jos Buttler is not there for quick starts.

In the bowling department, the Sri Lankan duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana will give Sanju Samson immense help in the middle overs. They would enhance their game so that RR doesn’t feel the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Ashwin.

Rajasthan Royals Threats:

With Buttler gone, expect Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson to open the innings. Thanks to this, Nitish Rana will have a huge role to play at the no. 3 spot and will anchor the RR innings. Coming to the bowling department, Jofra Archer will be leading the pack, and RR will be depending on him to give early wickets.
