Mumbai Indians, one of the most celebrated and successful teams in the Indian Premier League, has always been known to scout well and do a good job at the auction table to put up a well-balanced squad. They pick their players pretty well and every move they make turns out to be well-thought and well-planned.
Let us take a look at the four overseas players who might start the tournament in the playing XI from their pool of great talents.
1. Trent Boult
The left-arm pacer Mumbai had been longing for ever since they had to let go of him, Trent Boult returned to the squad. Boult and Mumbai seem to be a match made in heaven as both their performances improve with each other. Getting him back, he will definitely be one of the four overseas players for the team.
Trent Boult has great numbers in the Indian Premier League, but it gets even better when he dons Mumbai’s blue. He has played a total of 29 matches for the Mumbai Indians in the two seasons and has scalped 38 wickets with an economy of 7.94. His powerplay prowess makes him the biggest threat to the opponents.
2. Will Jacks
The Mumbai management had seemed to be extremely happy when they acquired the English all-rounder, Will Jacks. The owner of the franchise had gone up to Bengaluru’s management to thank them for not using an RTM card to reacquire the services of Jacks. This gesture shows how serious MI think tank has been about including him in the playing XI.
His stats in the shortest format and the short stint he has had so far in the IPL adds to why Mumbai thinks highly of Jacks. In just eight games last year, he smashed 230 runs at a strike rate of 175.57 including a magnificent century and scalped two wickets as well.
3. Mitchell Santner
Mumbai acquired the services of the street-smart all-rounder Mitchell Santner ahead of the IPL 2025 and he will surely be starting as a part of playing XI, especially with the first match being played in Chennai. His experience at the ground being his previous home ground in the IPL can benefit him and Mumbai there.
MI looks for and likes to play more all-rounders in the team from the very start which further makes the case of Santner strong. He has good numbers in the shortest format where he has scored 2335 runs and has scalped 216 wickets in 213 matches so far. Being very athletic on the field further adds extra points to his profile.
4. Ryan Rickelton
Ryan Rickelton has been a part of the Mumbai Indians franchise in the SA20 league and has shown great performances there. He has smashed 1012 runs at a strike rate of 162.70 playing in just 25 matches of the tournament.
He is also a wicketkeeper which broadens his scope of playing and contributing to the team’s success. Taking a look at the squad Mumbai Indians have collected together in the mega auctions ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025, it seems that Rickelton would be given the first preference as a wicketkeeper-batter and might start in the playing XI.
