IPL 2025: Know the RR squad, captain and vice-captain

Rajasthan Royals (RR) finished third in the last edition, losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the second play-off. In the group stage, they also finished third with 17 points (8 wins and 5 losses in 14 games). RR fans will hope for a better performance in the upcoming season.

Sanju Samson will lead the team again. Along with his captaincy, he will need to perform well as an individual batter. Last season, he was the fifth-highest run-scorer with 531 runs in 16 matches, averaging 48.27. 

However, he had a disappointing home T20I series against England, scoring just 51 runs in five inns, got out mostly in the similar fashion against the hard-legth and short deliveries. Samson recently underwent finger surgery and is expected to recover in time for IPL 2025. He will need about a month to recover. 

If he doesn’t fully recover, the franchise may need to find a new captain. Players like Wanindu Hasaranga or Nitish Rana might be considered potential leaders. Star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to be Samson’s deputy for the next season.

Jaiswal has been in excellent form both in IPL and international cricket, making him a strong candidate for the role. Retained players like Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, and Dhruv Jurel will also be key to RR's success. 

Parag was the third-highest run-scorer last season with 573 runs in 16 matches, averaging 52.09. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is another exciting young player who was secured for ₹1.10 crore. Players like Jofra Archer, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, and Nitish Rana need to step up for RR’s success.
