IPL is around the corner starting March 14 and lasting May 25 with all 10 teams gearing up to perform their best. The Gujarat Titans had a total purse of Rs 69 crores for the mega-auction 2025 and they did a wonderful job picking out players for various job roles.
The first two seasons were brilliant for the Titans as they won their inaugural season and went on to be the runner-up for the second season. However, their last season did not pan out the way they would have liked as they even failed to qualify for the play-offs.
For the seasons ahead, they held on to a strong core while letting go of some key players like Mohammad Shami. With this newly collected group of players, it would be interesting to see their picks and their performance in the upcoming season.
Let’s take a look at their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in IPL 2025.
Strengths
The Titans surely have plenty of strengths to look at but the biggest of them all has to be the quality and variety in their pace attack. Focusing majorly on their pacers, they brought in Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee, Mohammad Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Ishant Sharma. These bowlers bring a plethora of experience and firepower to their bowling attack and can rip through batting line-ups of any team.
They also have an excellent top order with Buttler, Gill and Sai Sudarshan being expected to occupy these places. Gill and Sai were on carnage last season together and with Buttler being added together, bowlers must be wary of this team.
An abundance of all-rounders in the team is one of their strengths as well. Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia have already proved their worth to the team and now the likes of Glenn Phillips, Karim Janat and Washington Sundar must aid their all-round attack.
A special mention can be given to their spin attack too where Rashid can own any team on his own and Sundar with his tight bowling and impeccable line and length can help strangle teams.
Weaknesses
Lack of substance in the middle order will certainly be their major concern. While Tewatia has done the job in the past how consistent can he continue to be would be the question here. Gujarat is heavily relying on Tewatia and Shahrukh to have a great season, otherwise their middle order might just sink entirely.
Overreliance on top order is also their weak link as the team does not have any big and reliable name in the middle order. Last season, the pair of Gill and Sai did the job well and this time around they would be hoping for a replica of the same with Buttler being the major factor here too.
Inexperienced backups, especially in the Indian players would be another area of concern for them. Mahipal Lomror, Anuj Rawat and Kumar Kushagra don’t give confidence as of now. Sherfane Rutherford and Glenn Phillips have also been sketchy with their performances.
Opportunities
New talents in the team would have a great opportunity to showcase their talent and prove their worth to the team. Washington Sundar, who did not get many chances in his previous team might also get a better fare here and can shine out this year while performances from Sudarshan can help him establish his name further and prove the last season was not merely a fluke.
A good mix of experience and youngsters can help the team a great deal too in dealing with various situations in the tournament.
Threats
The biggest of all threats for this team can be their star players. If they fail to click right from the start of the tournament, they are all set to be doomed due to their over-reliance on them for results in their favour.
Inconsistent performances would be another threat they have to deal with. They had pretty good first two seasons but were quite iffy in their last one and would need consistent performances as a team.
