IPL 2025: Full list of Indian Premier League season opening matches

The opening game of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) facing the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. However, it wasn’t a great start for KKR, led by Ajinkya Rahane, who went down by seven wickets much to the disappointment of the fans.

It was a clinical performance from RCB who made a stunning comeback in the second half of the innings with the ball and then were dominant with the bat. They chased down the 175-run target in just the 17th over with seven wickets in hand with Virat Kohli and Phil Salt playing starring roles.

Krunal Pandya was special too for RCB, picking up three wickets and helping them pull things back in the second half of the innings.

Interestingly, KKR and RCB locked horns in the season opener for the first time since the inaugural edition of IPL in 2008. It was a memorable start to the tournament then as a young Brendon McCullum of KKR tore apart RCB’s star studded bowling to slam an unbeaten 158 off just 73 deliveries.

However, 18 years later, RCB avenged their defeat successfully much to the delight of their fans as they will now hope to continue the winning moment for the rest of the season. As for KKR, they will be keen on making a comeback and registering their first points of the season soon.
