IPL 2025: DC

The IPL 2025 mega auction was very fruitful for the Delhi Capitals (DC). The IPL 2020 runners-up, the Delhi Capitals, spent ₹72.80 crores on 19 players. For just ₹14 crores, the team acquired seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul. Mitchell Starc, an Australian pacer, was signed to strengthen the team.

T Natarajan was also acquired by the team for INR 10.75 crore. For INR 9 crore and INR 8 crore, respectively, DC used RTM for Indian pacer Mukesh Kumar and Australian batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk.

They also won the bid for Harry Brook, Faf du Plessis, Mohit Sharma, Dushmantha Chameera, and other players. With everything set, today we look at the SWOT analysis of the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 season.

Delhi Capitals Strengths:

Excellent bowling

Aside from their deadly openers, the Delhi Capitals' main strength in the 2025 Indian Premier League is their excellent pace attack.

From the standpoint of an international pacer, their bowling order—which includes Dushmantha Chameera, Mitchell Starc, Mohit Sharma, T Natarajan, and Mukesh Kumar—will appear more than outstanding, making their bowling lineup extremely dangerous. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel will lead the spin department for the Delhi Capitals.

Terrific batting lineup

Advertisment

The Delhi Capitals will be a formidable team in the future thanks to their batting department's opening lineups, which promise an explosive start with Jack Fraser-McGurk, Faf du Plessis, and KL Rahul leading the rest.

Indian talents like Abishek Porel, Karun Nair, Sameer Rizvi, and Ashutosh Sharma, led by ever-dependent KL Rahul, will be hard to mess up with. They have the perfect mixture of pace-hitters at the top and spin bashers in the middle order.

Delhi Capitals Weaknesses:

Weak spin department

Apart from Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, the Delhi Capitals lack any other major spin talent—Indian or overseas. If necessary, uncapped player Ajay Mandal and inexperienced T20 player Vipraj Nigam would find it difficult to cover the gap. DC may be vulnerable to spin-friendly teams if they rely too much on their two primary spinners.

Batting order dilemmas

Having the likes of KL Rahul and Harry Brook on the team will give the Delhi Capitals management batting order headaches. Rahul has excelled as an opener, but with Fraser-McGurk and Faf du Plessis in the squad, Rahul might have to bat in the middle order in T20s, where he hasn’t done well.

Coming to the bowling unit, DC lacks any proper bowler who can be the middle-over enforcer. They have T Natarajan, who specializes in bowling yorkers, Mitchell Starc, and Mukesh Kumar, who are most useful in the powerplay. But there are no pacers who can curtail runs in middle overs.

Delhi Capitals Opportunities:

The Delhi Capitals have great chances in the 2025 IPL season because of the roster they assembled during the mega auction. The franchise gains a lot of firepower with powerful hitters like Harry Brook, Ashutosh Sharma, and Tristan Stubbs. These players could perform well at Arun Jaitley Stadium, DC's home field, where their aggressive style of play might be very useful.

Delhi's claim on India's second-smallest ground is further strengthened by the fact that some of their top five batsmen are extremely destructive. With the right circumstances and a fantastic hitting combination, DC can become one of the top teams in the tournament.

Delhi Capitals Threats:

Lack of backup strength in bowling

Their biggest opportunity is also Delhi Capital’s biggest threat. The small ground in Delhi is the opportunity for them to build a forceful hitting lineup; the same can be said for opposition batters. Add to that, DC has only two quality spinners in Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, who will find it hard to contain big hitters in Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The bench strength when it comes to bowling is the biggest threat to Delhi Capitals, as their backup spinners are not very experienced in bowling in high-pressure matches and might fail when a chance is given.
