IPL 2025: DC picks Mustafizur Rahman; BCB didn’t receive any communication from IPL

On Wednesday, May 14, Delhi Capitals announced Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman as the replacement for their opening batter Jake Fraser McGurk for the remainder of the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Notably, Jake pulled out of the season due to undisclosed reasons.

However, Mustafizur’s participation in the IPL 2025 season turned out to be doubtful after the Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury stated that the pacer was supposed to travel to the UAE with the Bangladesh team, according to the report published on ESPNCricinfo.

For the unversed, Bangladesh is all set to tour the United Arab Emirates on May 17 and May 19 for a two-match T20I series against the UAE team. Later, Bangladesh will play five matches in Pakistan from May 25 to June 3. 

"Mustafizur is supposed to go with the team to the UAE according to the schedule. We have not received any communication from IPL officials. I have also not received any such official communication from Mustafizur either," Nizamuddin Chowdhury told ESPNcricinfo.

Interestingly, Delhi Capitals are expected to play their final three league stage matches on May 18, 21, and 24, with the playoffs scheduled to start later this month. It would be interesting to see how the story pans out.

Speaking about Mustafizur’s IPL stats, he made his debut in the cash-rich league in 2016. He previously represented the Capitals’ franchise in the 2022 and 2023 editions. While he scalped eight wickets in eight games in IPL 2022, he could play only two games in IPL 2023.

In the overall IPL, the 29-year-old pacer has played 38 games, scalping 38 wickets at an economy of 7.84. With 132 wickets from 106 T20Is for Bangladesh, Mustafizur emerged as one of the dangerous left-arm pacers for the nation. In overall T20s, he has pocketed 351 wickets from 281 games.
