The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is fast approaching. The season is set to get underway on March 22 with the blockbuster clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This season will be special in many ways as teams have changed to a large extent due to the mega auction that happened in the lead up to the season.
With that, the combination of several teams have changed too and their chances to qualify for the playoffs as well. It is certainly tough to predict the four teams who will make it to the top four well before the season begins. But looking at the current team combinations, here we bring you four team that will make it to the playoffs of IPL 2025.
1. Sunrisers Hyderabad
The runners up of IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to retain the core players of the team ahead of the auction. With Pat Cummins set to lead them again, the team looks a perfect blend of aggression and defence. The likes of Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Reddy and Travis Head can do special things together. Moreover, the addition of players like Ishan Kishan and Mohammed Shami has only strengthened SRH. They look set to make it to the playoffs this season again due to the presence of these match-winners.
2. Royal Challengers Bengaluru
For once, RCB didn’t make crazy decisions at the auction table. Their picks were absolutely specific and were clear what they wanted this time. Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar can do wonders with the ball while Phil Salt’s addition alongside Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell can turn out to be game-changing. Moreover, the return of Devdutt Padikkal in the top three can also bode well for the franchise. Under Rajat Patidar’s captaincy and the ever present Virat Kohli, RCB look destined to have a special season this time around.
3. Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians just have enough in them to qualify for the playoffs this season. Like SRH, even they managed to retain the core of their legendary players. Players like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya have the ability to win matches single-handedly on their day. Moreover, Trent Boult returning to the team and the addition of Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton, Mitchell Santner and Deepak Chahar has only strengthened their bench if not the XI. The five-time champions look set to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2025.
4. Chennai Super Kings
Like MI, even Chennai Super Kings are also searching for their sixth IPL title and they have the squad to go all the way this season. Ruturaj Gaikwad is their skipper and with the help of MS Dhoni’s shrewd mind, CSK can go all the way this time around like they did in 2021 and 2023. Apart from retaining most of their core players, they bought back some of their old players as well like Sam Curran and Ravi Ashwin. Add to it the utility players like Jamie Overton, Nathan Ellis, Deepak Hooda and Rahul Tripathi among many others and the men in yellow look extremely strong. CSK are extremely strong at home and few away wins can seal their place in the playoffs.
