IPL 2025: 3 Weaknesses of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Sunrisers Hyderabad played an exciting brand of cricket during the last season of the IPL. The team finished as the runner-up after losing the final against Kolkata Knight Riders. Before the mega auction, SRH decided to retain Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Pat Cummins.

The team spent INR 11.25 crore for Ishan Kishan. He was the most expensive player picked by the franchise in the mega auction. The team let go of T Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar before the auction. They picked Mohammed Shami and Harshal Patel in the auction for INR 10 crore and 8 crore, respectively. Rahul Chahar and Adam Zampa are the two spinners that the team picked in the auction. The franchise picked Brydon Carse for INR 1 crore in the auction and has replaced him with Wiaan Mulder. Carse sustained an injury on his left toe during the Champions Trophy.

Here are the 3 weaknesses of Sunrisers Hyderabad:

1. Lack of Bench Strength

SRH might have one of the best starting playing 11. However, the same can’t be said about their bench strength. The team lacks like-to-like replacements for their overseas players like Travis Head or Heinrich Klaasen. The bowling unit also lacks experience when it comes to bench strength. SRH might be hoping that none of their frontline players get injured during the tournament.

2. A weak spin attack

Adam Zampa and Rahul Chahar are the two spinners in the squad. Zampa last played in the IPL in 2023, while Chahar played for Punjab Kings last season and took 10 wickets in nine games. The spin attack this season is stronger than last season. However, Zampa being an overseas player might create an issue. The management will have to rest him if they might want to bring any other overseas player in the lineup.

3. Absence of an experienced middle-order batter

Last season, SRH had Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram in the middle order. However, this season SRH lacks experienced players like them. Atharva Taide, Abhinav Manohar, Aniket Verma, and Sachin Baby are the only batters who can be slotted in the middle order.
