IPL 2025 is all set to commence on March 22 with the 10 teams competing in a two-month-long tournament which will begin with the clash of defending champions KKR taking on RCB in the opening fixture. After winning the IPL in their debut season in 2022 Gujarat Titans were a strong squad from the beginning. They were runner-ups in 2023 and in the 2024 season, GT were placed eighth.

Gujarat Titans maintained their core group of players by retaining Shubhman Gill (captain), Rahul Tewatia, Sai Sudarshan, Shahrukh Khan and Rashid Khan. GT had gone big to acquire the services of experienced international players like Jos Buttler and Kagiso Rabada. Indian bowlers Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna were also bought at the auction at a high cost. Glenn Phillips and Gerald Coetzee were also bought by the franchise at the auction.
Weaknesses of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025
1. Weakness in middle order
GT has a strong top order with the likes of Buttler, Gill and Sudarshan, but the team lacks a strong middle order, which can go big after the powerplay and in the death overs.
They have Shahrukh, Mahipal Lomror and Anuj Rawat, but they are not proven performers in the IPL. They may be forced to depend on Glenn Phillips to play that role instead of trying him at the top three.
2. Death Bowling
GT have Rabada in their ranks but death bowling could still be a weak link. Siraj has been costly many times over the past few years in IPL and Prasidh Krishna will be making his return after injury.
They also have Gerald Coetzee, but he too was not part of the Champions Trophy due to an injury. If on any given day, Rabada struggles with the bowl, then GT can find themselves in a very precarious position with their death bowling.
3. Injury or recovery issues
GT has some fast bowlers who have a history of injuries. Prasidh, who will be making his return to competitive cricket, and Goetzee, who had also missed game time in the past few months, are some of those.
Moreover, workload management of Rabada is also important considering the IPL being a long tournament as the fast bowler will be very crucial for GT’s chances.
