However, over the years, the Preity Zinta-co-owned team has made some interesting moves at the auction table. This year was the same for the team. They made history in the IPL 2025 Auction when they acquired the services of Shreyas Iyer.

Three of the top five most expensive purchases were made by PBKS in the IPL 2025 Auction. Before the auction, the team brought in Ricky Ponting as the head coach. Ponting helped PBKS assemble an experienced squad. The team bought a total of 23 players in the auction. Here are the top three players for PBKS in this season:

Here are 3 key players for PBKS in this season:

1. Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal is the leading wicket-taker in IPL and is the only bowler who has picked more than 200 wickets. Chahal has a total of 205 wickets to his name in 160 games at an average of 22.44, an economy of 7.84, and a strike rate of 17.17. Chahal made his IPL debut in 2013 with Mumbai Indians and managed to play just a single game. His debut happened when Ricky Ponting was a part of the Mumbai Indians team, and the leg-spinner will rejoin his former teammate at PBKS.

Since 2014, he has managed to pick less than 15 wickets in just three seasons. He has taken more than 20 wickets in five seasons since his debut. PBKS fought a hard battle against five teams to bring Chahal into their squad.

2. Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh has been the most successful bowler for India in T20Is in recent times. He is just one wicket away from equalling Chahal's record of most wickets in T20Is for India. In 2024, Arshdeep took 36 wickets in 18 games for India at an average of 13.50. Arshdeep made his IPL debut in 2019 with PBKS and has been a part of the franchise since then.

PBKS shelled out INR 18 crore and the Right to Match (RTM) card for Arshdeep. Arshdeep came into the IPL 2025 auction with a base price of INR 2 crore. A total of six teams made bids for Arshdeep, and Sunrisers Hyderabad had him for INR 15.75 crore before PBKS decided to use RTM.

3. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer became the most expensive player in the IPL 2025 Auction before Lucknow Super Giants bought Rishabh Pant for INR 27 crore. PBKS shelled out INR 26.75 crore for the right-handed batter.

At PBKS, Iyer will join Ricky Ponting, who was the coach of the Delhi Capitals (DC) when Iyer was a part of the team. Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL trophy last season and PBKS will be expecting a similar result from him. He is highly likely to be named the captain of the side.

Iyer made his IPL debut in 2015 with DC and has made 3127 runs in 116 matches since then at an average of 32.23 and a strike rate of 127.47. He recently won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with Mumbai and finished as the second-highest run-scorer for the team.
