IPL 2025: 3 Key players for MI in this season

The five-time champions Mumbai Indians will be looking to lift the coveted IPL trophy for the first time since 2020. Even though they were dominant throughout the 2010s, they have not lived up to the expectations regarding their consistency. This time around, under the leadership of Hardik Pandya and a star lineup, the fans will be expecting them to reach the finish line.

During the mega auctions, MI had the second-highest purse and a few gaps. To fill up the wicketkeeper’s slot by picking up Ryan Rickelton, Robin Minz, and Krishnan Shrijith. They also have stars like Will Jacks, who is expected to open with Rohit Sharma. 

Talking about the bowling lineup, they have economical bowlers like Deepak Chahar, Mitchell Santner, Jasprita Bumrah and Trent Boult.

1. Tilak Verma

Known for his technique, temperament, and shot-making ability, Tilak Verma soon made it to the national side in 2023 against the Windies. Verma is now a regular member of the playing XI and is striking the ball with an impressive rate of 161.25. With a couple of centuries to his name in T20Is, Verma is on the verge of becoming one of the best in the business. 

In the IPL, he has managed to score 1156 runs at an average of 39.86. With a highest score of 84 and a strike rate of 146.32, Verma can tear apart any bowling lineup on his day. He is also a great fielder and with the ability to bowl a couple of overs, Verma is an all-round package for the MI management.

Verma can be a valuable asset in run chases and with MI retaining him for a whopping INR 18 crores, the management has shown faith in the southpaw. Talking about consistency, Verma has managed to score 397, 343, and 416 runs respectively in the three seasons he has played. 

2. Suryakumar Yadav 

Without any doubt, Suryakumar Yadav is the most destructive batter in the shortest format of the game. Since his debut, he has managed to score 2570 runs in 78 games in T20Is. Additionally, he is the current skipper of the Indian T20I side. 

Suryakumar is a valuable asset for any team, thanks to his ability to counterattack if needed. In 150 IPL games, he has been playing with a strike rate of 145.32. With four centuries in the international stage and two in the IPL, there is no doubt what Suryakumar is capable of. 

This time around, he will be a part of the leadership in the MI squad. His input will be valuable to the skipper and if required, Suryakumar will be the one leading from the front. It will be interesting to see how the opposition bowlers fare against this star batter.

3. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah will go down as the most skillful bowler India has ever produced. Since his debut, he has been the most impactful bowler of the side. Bumrah will be the poster boy for the star players IPL has given a platform. 

With 133 games in the IPL, Bumrah has been able to pick up 165 wickets. He can be used at any stage of the game and his four overs will be crucial in every game for the Indians. Additionally, he has picked up 89 wickets at a bowling economy rate of just 6.27 on the international stage.

Bumrah had a stellar year in 2024, and by winning the Player of the Series award in the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean, he has established himself as one of the greatest bowlers India has ever produced. Hence, he will be the most important player in the MI side.
