IPL 2025: 3 Game Changers in the PBKS Squad

Punjab Kings (PBKS) decided to retain only two players before the IPL 2025 mega-auction: Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh. They decided to start afresh and went into the IPL 2025 mega-auction with the most money in their purse.

They utilized star pacer Arshdeep Singh's RTM card at the auction. Harpreet Brar, a utility player, was also re-signed. Aside from these four players, PBKS has a completely new appearance.

The acquisition of Shreyas Iyer was the main attraction for PBKs in the IPL auction. Punjab gave their all for the 2024 IPL champion skipper. The Indian hitter, who played for the Kolkata Knight Riders, cost Rs. 26.75 crore.

Yuzvendra Chahal, the top T20 bowler in India and the IPL's top wicket-taker, was a wise investment at Rs. 18 crores.

And Punjab Kings will hope that one of these big-name players will turn up for them and end their drought of reaching the IPL playoffs that has been on for a decade. Today we take a look at three such players who can bring happiness back on the faces of PBKS owners and fans alike.

1. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer will be the main man for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) side in the IPL 2025. Iyer knows the risk that comes with captaining the Punjab side, as they have had the most captains in IPL history. Despite the potholes, Shreyas Iyer, who won the IPL 2024 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has tasked himself with the responsibility of captaining the side.

Shreyas Iyer will also be crucial with the bat for PBKS, possibly batting at no. 4 and countering the spin threat in the middle overs, the same thing he does with the Indian team. He has a good record in IPL, with 3127 runs in 116 IPL matches with a best of 96 at a strike rate of 127.47. He has struck 21 fifties with 271 fours and 113 sixes to his name in IPL.

2. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell returns to the franchise whom he had helped reach the finals of the IPL 2014, and despite spending some quality time away at the RCB camp, the IPL 2024 season was a poor one for Maxwell. He has played 70 matches for the team from the 2014 to 2020 season. Maxwell is the fifth-highest run-scorer for PBKS and has made 1383 runs at an average of 23.84.

Maxwell was playing brilliantly in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25. In just nine games, he amassed 325 runs at a strike rate of 186.78 and an average of 54.16. Maxwell will be a key component for Punjab Kings, as a finisher and as an off-spinning all-rounder. Expect fireworks from Maxwell in a Punjab jersey and happy times.

3. Josh Inglis

Josh Inglis is expected to be the primary wicketkeeper for Punjab Kings and open the innings as well. Inglis boasts of a very good T20I record for Australia, scoring 706 runs in 29 games with 2 centuries to his name with a strike rate of 156.88.

He also has 3370 runs in 139 T20 games with a strike rate of 148.06 and 4 centuries to his name. Inglis will be tasked with bringing the fearless approach to the top order of PBKS batters. His exuberance and ability to take on pacers in the powerplay overs will be key for the Punjab team getting off to a good start.
