Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are still chasing their elusive title in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They will enter the 18th edition of the tournament on March 22 with renewed hope and a brand new captain in Rajat Patidar. 1. Rajat Patidar
The biggest game changer will be Rajat Patidar for RCB. The new captain always brings new ideas and out of the box thinking with him which is always necessary in the T20 format. Patidar has been groomed under the likes of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli over the last few years and certainly is aware of what it is to be the leader of the pack, especially RCB.
Add to it his explosive batting, mostly against spin, and Patidar is certainly a match-winner for his team. The cricketer from Madhya Pradesh will be eager to turn things around for the Bengaluru franchise and as captain, he has the ability to turn the game on its head either with the bat or with his leadership.
2. Virat Kohli
RCB is nothing without Virat Kohli. Is the vice-versa possible? In the IPL, yes, it is possible. Kohli cannot fathom anything apart from playing for RCB in the cash-rich league and certainly harbours a dream of lifting the trophy at least once before hanging his boots from the sport.
Who can forget his 974-run IPL in 2016 when he single-handedly led from the front with the bat to take RCB to the final. Kohli will be eager to put up a show yet again with the bat. 3. Phil Salt
Not many will agree with this given his recent form at the international level. But Phil Salt is a gamechanger with the bat and at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the man can create history in the next couple of months. Salt plundered the bowlers for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) last season and played a crucial role in ending their 10-year title drought in the IPL.
It is his job now to do the same with the RCB by providing them with solid and whirlwind starts with his exceptional batting. For the unversed, Salt scored 435 runs in 12 matches for KKR in IPL 2024 at a staggering strike rate of 182. Overall, he has amassed 653 runs in 21 innings in the cash-rich league at a brilliant strike rate of 175.53 with six fifties to his name.
