IPL 2025: 3 Game changers in LSG squad

In response, the LSG management made bold decisions, parting ways with former captain KL Rahul and opting not to retain him. Instead, they have entrusted Rishabh Pant with the leadership, ushering in a new era for the franchise. Whether Pant can guide LSG to their maiden IPL title remains to be seen.

However, with a mix of retained players and new signings from the mega-auction, LSG has built a squad with several potential game-changers who could make a significant impact in IPL 2025.

1. Rishabh Pant

LSG made history in the IPL 2025 mega-auction by breaking the bank for star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, signing him for a record-breaking INR 27 crore—the most expensive player in IPL history. Along with the massive signing, LSG has also confirmed that Pant will lead the team, raising expectations for their maiden IPL title.

Pant had a challenging season as captain of Delhi Capitals (DC) last year, with the team finishing sixth with 14 points in 14 games. This season presents a perfect opportunity for redemption as a leader. 

Despite DC’s struggles, Pant had an excellent season individually, scoring 446 runs in 13 matches at an average of 40.55 and a strike rate of 155.40, including three fifties. Now, with a fresh challenge at LSG, he will aim to translate his explosive batting and aggressive leadership into success for the franchise.

2. Ravi Bishnoi

Young leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi has established himself as a dependable performer in the IPL over the past few seasons. Recognising his potential, LSG retained him for INR 11 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 season.

In the previous edition, Bishnoi picked up 10 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 8.77. While his numbers were decent, he will be eager to make an even bigger impact this season. His ability to bowl in different phases of the game makes him a crucial asset for LSG, and under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy, he will look to be a game-changer with his variations.

Apart from his IPL performances, Bishnoi has also made an impression in international cricket. A strong showing in IPL 2025 could further solidify his place in the Indian team, especially with major tournaments on the horizon.    

3. Nicholas Pooran 

West Indies power-hitter Nicholas Pooran is undoubtedly one of the most destructive batters in T20 cricket today. His ability to change the course of a game singlehandedly makes him a key player for LSG in IPL 2025. LSG retained him for more than INR 20 crore.  

In the last season, Pooran was a standout performer, scoring 499 runs in 14 matches at an impressive average of 62.38 and a blistering strike rate of 178.21. He smashed three fifties and was particularly dominant against spin, making him a crucial asset in the middle overs.

Before Rishabh Pant was announced as LSG’s new captain, there were speculations that Pooran could take on the leadership role. However, with Pant now at the helm, Pooran can fully focus on his batting and look to deliver more match-winning performances for LSG.
