IPL 2025: 3 Expensive MI players who gave low returns

Mumbai Indians were chasing their sixth title in IPL 2025 and in order to do that, they spent with their hearts and purses. They went big on quite a few players, which they had in their mind to form the team of their dreams. However, some of these signings just did not pay off the way they would have wished. Here are three such players who were not able to put their performance back for the team.

1. eepak Chahar Deepak Chahar (₹ 9.75 crores)

Chahar was a dream buy for the Mumbai Indians' bowling line-up as they would have an unheard trio of Bumrah-Boult-Chahar. Any team would fear going against such a deadly bowling attack, but alas, it did not turn out the way they might have planned. Splurging ₹ 9.75 crores for Deepak, he failed quite miserably, taking away just 10 wickets in 12 games, and that too at an economy of 9.31 rpo. Apart from the initial powerplay, he was not useful anywhere and would just be leaking runs.

2. Will Jacks (₹ 5.25 crores)

Signed to add power to Mumbai’s top order, England’s hard-hitting all-rounder flashed his potential with a lone half-century, but inconsistency blunted his impact. 

Across 11 innings, Jacks amassed 233 runs at a below-par strike rate of 135.46, and too many starts petered out before he could shift momentum. For a ₹ 5.25 crore investment, MI expected stability alongside fireworks—what they got was sporadic brilliance that left the middle order scrambling more often than not.

3. Mujeeb-ur-Rehman (₹ 2 crores)

Mujeeb was not really a part of the original plans for the team, and the spin department was to be handled by Allah Ghazanfar, who was bought for ₹4.8 crores, but he was out of the tournament due to injury. 

So, Mujeeb was brought in as a replacement and played a game as well, but could not impress the team with his performance, even after taking a wicket in that game. He did not have any chances after that match.
