The miseries for Rajasthan Royals are not ending in the current edition of the IPL. First, they lost Jofra Archer ahead of the season, then Ben Stokes was ruled out midway due to an injury. Liam Livingstone also opted out of the tournament citing bio bubble fatigue and now Andrew Tye has pulled out of the IPL due to undisclosed reasons.
Andrew Tye was retained by the Rajasthan Royals for his base price of INR 1 crore after a scintillating performance in the Big Bash League. Tye picked up 21 wickets in 17 games at a brilliant average of 20.62. He along with Jhye Richardson played a crucial role in Perth Scorcher’s journey to the final. Richardson was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 29 scalps in 17 games.
In a video released by Rajasthan Royals, RR's Director of Cricket Operations Kumar Sangakkara can be seen informing the players about Tye's departure.
“AJ is leaving in the morning at 4 AM, so all of you boys who wanna say bye to him and thank you, he’s been part of the squad. He’s offered a lot of himself and his thoughts,” Sangakkara said to the players while Tye was also present in the dressing room.
Though Andrew Tye didn’t feature in any of the Rajasthan Royals matches in IPL 2021, he was expected to make a cut into the playing XI at some point of time.
Talking about Rajasthan Royals, they are having a torrid time in the tournament with three losses in five games. However, they did manage to end their three-match losing streak when they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 6 wickets. The Royals next play Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 29.
