If reports are to be believed, the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been hit by a COVID-19 scare as one player from Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are set to play Delhi Capitals tonight has tested positive for COVID-19. The identity of the player has not been revealed and an official confirmation is still awaited. The rest of the players have been re-tested and the results of which are yet to come.
If the reports are found to be true, this will be a massive setback to the BCCI and IPL. The first leg of the IPL 2021 was also postponed due to COVID-19. If the COVID-19 has breached the IPL bubble in UAE, not only the T20 extravaganza but the following T20 World Cup could also be put in jeopardy. Meanwhile, if few more players test positive in the re-tests, there is a possibility of today’s match getting called off.
Recently, the fifth Test between England and India was also called off after members of the Indian coaching staff was tested positive. Also, the Indian team in Sri Lanka were dealt with COVID-19 after Krunal Pandya was tested positive for COVID-19.
