India suffered another thrashing loss in a major final on 11 June 2023 when Australia defeated them by 209 runs at the Oval in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Batters failed miserably again in both innings. Virat Kohli came to this clash with good form with the bat after a successful IPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

So, fans were hoping to see him score big runs in this final. But, in the first innings, Kohli scored 14 runs and in the second, he scored 49 runs. So, it was a disappointing Test for the former Team India skipper. Now, after this devastating loss, Kohli came up with a cryptic Instagram story that left fans stunned.

“You should ask Kohli what shot he played.” - Sunil Gavaskar

Speaking of the post, it was written: “Silence is the source of great strength.” It seemed that Kohli might be targeting someone while some fans claimed it would be the former Team India player, Sunil Gavaskar. Gavaskar was not happy with the way of dismissal of the batter in the second innings. While speaking to Star Sports, he said: “It was a bad shot. It was an ordinary shot. You are asking me how he did that – but you should ask Kohli what shot he played.”

“That was a shot outside the off stump. We talk so much about the fact that when you are going to win a match, you need a long innings, a century-plus innings. How are you going to get a century-plus innings, when you play a shot that is so far outside the off stump? He was batting on 49, and nearing a landmark. I don’t think Virat Kohli would have played that shot if he wasn’t near a personal landmark,” he concluded. Virat Kohli got out to Scott Boland to a ball outside of the off stump while chasing it. He managed a thick edge and Steve Smith completed an excellent catch to complete the dismissal.
