After crushing New Zealand in the second ODI on January 21, Saturday, the Indian team faced off against them for the final contest of the three-match series on Tuesday and it was the Kiwis who won the toss and elected to field first, putting the Indian openers under the radar early on in the day.

Much to the surprise of the spectators, the opening duo, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started to smack the ball to the boundaries right from the first over, leaving the Black Caps pacers with no answers. While Gill scored a fifty off just 33 balls, Rohit, on the other hand, looked sound with the bat as he reached his fifty off 41 balls and put the Men in Blue on the front foot right away.

Much to the delight of the Indian fans, team India gathered 147 runs in quickfire pace at the end of 17 overs, making a statement ahead of the 50-over World Cup scheduled to take place in India later this year. Rohit and his team have been playing aggressively since the start of the new year and this comes on the back of their dismal outing in almost every single match that they played in 2022.

While Gill is enjoying his golden run, it was Rohit who was under the under for his continued poor run with the ball across formats. However, ever since the series against Sri Lanka worked out, the batter has been unstoppable and on Tuesday, the Kiwi bowlers looked clueless, making too many errors on the field.

Batting at a strike rate of around 138, Rohit caused a scare early on in the innings and was cruising at 67 at the end of 17 overs. It remains to be seen if the right-handed batter would be able to carry on with the purple patch until the multinational tournament, although one could understand that India are trying to get things sorted ahead of the much-anticipated multinational tournament.

The Indian star batter was quick enough to convert his fifty into a mighty century as he reached the feat off just 82 balls and stunned the crowd on the day. The Black Caps, on the other hand, struggled to pick his wicket, eventually letting the batter reach the three-figure landmark on the day and score his 30th ODI ton and made his way back right away post achieving the feat.
