Virat Kohli, India (Source: Twitter)
The former captain of India, Virat Kohli, first played in a Test match on June 20, 2011. In Kingston, Jamaica, he made his debut against the West Indies. In his maiden Test, the right-handed batsman only managed to score 19 runs, therefore his performance with the bat was not impressive. He only just managed to score four runs in the first inning. Fidel Edwards ordered Kohli, who was batting at number five, back to the pavilion. The right-handed Kohli scored 15 runs off of 54 balls in the second inning before being eventually removed by Fidel Edwards once more.
India eventually prevailed in the game by a score of 63 runs. Kohli has had a significant impact on the game since making his Test debut. On this day in 2011, Kohli made his Test debut. As a batter and skipper, he has changed the course of Indian Test cricket. In the 109 Tests he has played thus far, he has amassed 28 hundreds at an average of 48.72. In a 2019 match against South Africa in Pune, Kohli scored 254, which stands as his greatest Test score to date.
Virat Kohli faced criticism after a poor performance in the WTC 2021-23 Final against Australia
The similarities between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar have been stronger over time, and many believe that Kohli will surpass Tendulkar's records. Kohli is now placed 13th in the Test rankings. In the longest format of cricket, India's run machine has amassed 8479 runs at a strike rate of 55.34. After 2021 and the first half of 2022 fell short of Virat's enormous expectations, the star batter began his road to redemption with the Asia Cup in 2022. Before the competition, Virat took a break from the sport for more than a month.
Virat Kohli was one of the senior batters who faced criticism for his performance in the World Test Championship final (WTC), which just ended at The Oval. Kohli was one run short of hitting his half-century in the game's fourth inning. At a crucial moment in the game, he was dismissed while pursuing a wide delivery, and his method of dismissal was criticised.
Virat Kohli came up with a special tweet to commemorate his 12 years in Test Cricket. Fans have reacted plentifully flooding the comment section.
