The Indian T20 League 2023 is fast approaching and the teams are toiling hard to rope in the right players in the upcoming mini-auction set to take place on December 23, in Kochi. As things stand, while many Indian players are hoping to get a contract, the likes of Sam Curran, Cameron Green and Ben Stokes are awaiting a big bid on the day.

While 19 players will go under the hammer with a base price of INR 2 crore, 20 players have their base prices set at INR 1 crore and it remains to be seen if all of them might get a contract. We decided to handpick 5 players with INR 1 crore as the base price, and might go unsold in the mini-auction.

Here are the five players with INR 1 crore base price who might go unsold in the mini-auction:

1) Joe Root

Joe Root, the English veteran, decided to give it a shot and enrolled himself on the auction after a long time. Although one could argue that the talismanic batter could fit into a team if given a chance, it is highly unlikely for Root to bag a contract, given the teams are banking on aggressive players.

With the game evolving over time and fans expecting more action, classy players like Root and Cheteshwar Pujara are unlikely to bag a contract to their name in the auction. While Pujara, who was a part of the Chennai franchise in 2021, is not a part of the auction, the English veteran might not find himself in a franchise post the auction.

2) Shai Hope

Shai Hope could come in handy for a few teams and the West Indies batter is known for his ability to lift the team up from crunch situations. However, the batter, who has played 63 T20 matches, has an average of around 21 and a strike rate of 118.93.

With not many runs under his belt and an unimpressive T20 record, Hope might go unsold in the mini-auction. Given that he enrolled himself under INR 1 crore category, his base price could come as a headache for the franchises as well.

3) Andrew Tye

Andrew Tye, the Australian pacer, is known for his ability to bowl the knuckleballs and of late, Tye faded out of the radar and is nowhere to be seen. Given that he will go under the hammer with INR 1 crore base price, teams might find it too heavy for a player who has been a part of the tournament actively.

However, Tye’s impressive record in the Indian T20 League might give him an edge over the others. With 42 wickets to his name in the 30 league matches he has played, the Kangaroo pacer stands one among those whom franchises might consider as the last option.

4) Luke Wood

Luke Wood, the Three Lions pacer, has represented the team in 2 T20Is and a single ODI, with not many impressive spells to his name. To add more, Wood has gathered 3 wickets in the international arena so far and it remains to be seen if teams would consider him as an option for the future.

However, with nothing to boast in the internationals and the domestics and with the base price set at INR 1 crore, it is highly likely that franchises might overlook the fiery left-arm pacer and consider other options from the category, for the forthcoming season.

5) Moises Henriques

Moises Henriques was a hot topic during 2016 and 17 and the player has experience playing in the Indian tournament. However, of late, the allrounder has not been a part of competitive cricket, which might come as a factor to overlook him in the mini-auction.

Although one could argue that Henriques boasts an impressive record of over 950 runs and 42 wickets in the Indian T20 League, his fitness, lack of exposure and the high base price could cost him a contract for the approaching season of the highly-competitive league.
