Hyderabad now look like a force to reckon with. They have now won their fourth consecutive game of the Indian T20 league 2022. They beat Punjab by seven wickets. It is to be noted that the Punjab-based franchise were playing without their regular skipper, i.e. Mayank Agarwal. He was ruled out due to an injury.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Hyderabad got the early breakthrough in the form of Shikhar Dhawan. The stand-in captain of Punjab was dismissed in the third over of the first innings. Prabhsimran Singh was quick to follow him as he had to depart after scoring 14 from 11 balls.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was fabulous with the new ball as he gave just 11 runs in his first two overs. Jonny Bairstow failed to impress as he was dismissed by Jagadeesha Suchith. The keeper-batter is yet to fire in the 2022 edition. However, Liam Livingstone ensured that he continued his good form as he played some audacious shots.
Despite the continuous loss of wickets on the other end, the Englishman continued to take the aggressive route. He scored a brilliant 33-ball 60. Barring him, none of the Punjab batters were able to go on and get a big score. The Punjab-based franchise were only able to score 19 runs in the last four overs.
It was Umran Malik who stole the show. The speedster took a brilliant four-fer, while giving just 28 runs in his full quota of four overs. As a matter of fact, he took three wickets in the final over of the first innings. This restricted Punjab to 151.
During the second innings, Kane Williamson had to return to the pavilion after scoring three runs. He took nine balls for the same. However, Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi played some useful knocks which ensured that the orange army didn't have any scoreboard pressure. After playing some attractive shots, both of them were dismissed in a matter of 13 balls.
Rahul Chahar was the pick of the bowlers for Punjab as he went for just 28 runs in his four overs, and also picked two wickets. Just when Punjab looked like they could make a comeback in the game, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran took the game away from the 2014-finalists, and played some eye-pleasing shots. At the end, they chased their target with seven balls to spare.
