After losing their first two games of the Indian T20 league, Hyderabad have finally got back to the groove. They went on to win their third consecutive game as they beat Kolkata by seven wickets. It was a convincing performance from the orange army, to say the least.

The fact that the victory came against the in-form Kolkata-based franchise comes as a huge confidence boosterย  They were dominant right from ball one. The Hyderabad bowlers managed to prematurely dismiss Kolkata's openers. Aaron Finch didn't really have a great debut for the two-time champions. As for Venkatesh Iyer, he once again failed to impress as he was dismissed after making a 13-ball six.

Kolkata continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 70-4 in 10 overs. However, Nitish Rana and Andre Russell ensured that their side don't stumble. While the Indian batter scored a wonderful half-century, the explosive all-rounder scored an unbeaten 49. This enabled them to get to 175-8 in the first innings.

Considering the assistance the pacers were getting, it looked like a good total. To make things more spicey, Hyderabad's openers had to prematurely return to the pavilion. However, Kolkata's joy didn't last too long as Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram took the attack to the opposition. They were ballistically aggressive.

The duo put on a 95-run partnership. Tripathi in particular was simply sensational as he played one of his best knocks. He went on to score 71 off just 37 balls at a strike rate of 191.89. The fact that it came against his former team was icing over the cake. Post his dismissal, Markram ensured that the orange army end up on the winning side.

He scored an unbeaten 68 from 36 balls. Varun Chakaravarthy had a day to forget as he was hit for 45 runs in his three overs. Thus, the Hyderabad-based franchise chased the target with 13 balls to spare. What followed was a flurry of memes as fans were at their creative best.
