The 9th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 is scheduled to be played between Mumbai and Rajasthan on Saturday at DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. Rajasthan has made a great start to its Indian T20 League 2022 campaign. They won their first match against Hyderabad by 61 runs on Friday. On the other hand, Mumbai are yet to earn their first points in the tournament. They are coming into the game on the back of a 4-wicket defeat at the hands of Delhi.
Team News:
Rajasthan:
Rajasthan impressed one and all with their brilliant performance in the first match against Hyderabad. The fans and the cricket pundits witnessed how good their team is this time around.
There is no denying the fact that Rajasthan has one of the most balanced squads this season. A collective effort with the bat helped them post a gigantic 210-run total in the first innings. The bowling unit also bowled admirably and restricted the opposition to just 149 runs, thereby winning the game by 61 runs. Heading into their next match, Sanju Samson and Co. would be looking to continue the winning momentum.
Probable XI:
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler (O), Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Shimron Hetmyer(O), Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Nathan Coulter-Nile (O), Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult (O), Prasidh Krishna.
Players to watch out for:
1. Jos Buttler: One of the most destructive batters in T20 cricket, Jos Buttler gave the team a powerful start in the first game. He scored 35 runs in 28 deliveries, including 3 fours and 3 sixes. Ahead of the next game against Mumbai, Buttler would be looking to notch his first half-century this season, if not a hundred.
2. Sanju Samson: The Rajasthan skipper too showcased his class in the last game against Hyderabad. Samson looked at his absolute best and notched his first half-century of the season in the very first game. He is certainly a player to watch out for this season.
3. Trent Boult: Trent Boult is playing for a new franchise but is making a similar impact to the one he made for Mumbai in the last two years. Boult bowled beautifully in his opening spell and returned with figures of 2 for 23 in 4 overs.
4. Yuzvendra Chahal: Despite not much help from the spinners, Chahar used all his experience and managed to pick 3 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs against Hyderabad. His presence in the team makes them a formidable bowling unit. The Indian leg-spinner will be key to the team’s fortune this season.
Mumbai: Much like previous seasons, Mumbai has started with a defeat. They lost their first match against Delhi by 4 wickets. Batting first, MI posted 177 runs in the first innings but Delhi Capitals chased it down in 18.2 overs. Mumbai didn’t play their first game with their full strength. Heading into their next game, they will be boosted with the return of Suryakumar Yadav.
Probable Playing XI:
Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard (O), Tim David (O), Daniel Sams (O), Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills (O), Basil Thampi.
Players to watch out for:
1. Rohit Sharma: Given that there’s not a lot of depth in the batting line-up this year, Rohit Sharma needs to show a bit more consistency with the bat. He looked solid for his 32-ball 41 in the last game. The fans would be hoping that he plays a big knock in the next match.
2. Ishan Kishan: Ishan Kishan is likely to open the batting in all the matches this season and he would be pleased with that. The southpaw has made an outstanding start to his campaign, having scored an unbeaten 81-run knock in 48 balls in the last match. It will be interesting to see if he could replicate that against Rajasthan.
3. Suryakumar Yadav: The return of Suryakumar Yadav should be a big boost for Mumbai ahead of the next game against Rajasthan. The 31-year-old batter is in great form and that should keep the team in good stead.
4. Jasprit Bumrah: Mumbai doesn’t have the services of Trent Boult and Rahul Chahar this year. Also, Jofra Archer will be available next year. In such circumstances, Jasprit Bumrah needs to step up to the plate and deliver match-winning performances with the ball. He is the biggest bet for them in the bowling department.

Pitch Report: So far, two matches of the ongoing tournament have been held at this ground. One was a high-scoring affair, while the other one was a low-scoring thriller. However, you could expect the upcoming match to be another high-scoring contest. The ball is coming nicely onto the bat. New ball bowlers, though, can make an impact in the powerplay, while spinners could also prove handy in the middle overs. With dew coming in the second innings, both teams should look to bowl first upon winning the toss.
