Hyderabad vs Lucknow (Image source: BCCI/IPL)
The 12th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 will see Hyderabad take on Lucknow on Monday at DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. Hyderabad finished at the bottom of the points table last season and they haven’t started too well this year as well.
Kane Williamson and Co. lost their first game against Rajasthan by 61 runs. Lucknow, on the other hand, registered their first win of the tournament after beating Chennai by 6 wickets on Thursday. They would be looking to continue the winning momentum and consolidate their position on the points table.
Team News:
Hyderabad:
Hyderabad had a poor outing with the ball in their last game against Rajasthan. The latter notched a mammoth total of 210 runs on the board in the first innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1 for 29) bowled well, however, the other bowlers conceded plenty of runs. It will be interesting to see if they make any change in the bowling department. Their performance with the bat didn’t inspire a lot of confidence either.
Aiden Markram and Washington Sundar showed some application with the bat but the other batters failed to hit the straps. Against a powerful unit of Lucknow, Hyderabad need to put in a collective effort with the bat and ball if they are to win the game on Monday. In a big boost for them, Marco Jansen has joined the squad and he is likely to be available for the next game.
Players to watch out for:
Kane Williamson:
Kane Williamson is the leader of the pack. Hyderabad don’t have the services of Warner, Bairstow and Holder this year. It’s important that he scores runs consistently and helps the team reach the playoffs. His role is going to be crucial to the side.
Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran’s current form inspires a lot of confidence. He has been scoring runs consistently on the international stage. However, the southpaw hasn’t made a great start to the Indian T20 League, having got out without opening his account in the first game against Rajasthan. It will be interesting to see how he fares with the bat on Monday.
Umran Malik
The rising sensation, Umran Malik has been the talking point since his arrival in the tournament. He bowled at great pace and troubled quite a few batters in the first game. The Hyderabad pacer is definitely going to improve as he plays more games in the tournament. He will, once again, be a player to watch out for on Monday.
Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Kane Williamson (c), Nicholas Pooran (wk), Aiden Markram, Abdul Samad, Washington Sundar, Romario Shepherd/Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Umran Malik
Lucknow:
After losing the first game, Lucknow made a superb comeback against Chennai on Thursday. On a batting paradise, CSK notched a mammoth score of 210 runs on the board. However, Lucknow put in an even better performance with the bat and chased down the score in 19.3 overs.
KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock gave the team a stellar start, while Evin Lewis and Ayush Badoni later made valuable contributions to guide the team home. Heading into the next game, Lucknow would be keen to continue the winning momentum.
Lucknow team would feel more confident with the arrival of Jason Holder. He is likely to play the next game.
Players to watch out for:
KL Rahul
KL Rahul consistently scored runs for Punjab in the last three seasons. However, he hasn’t had a great start with a new franchise in Lucknow. He got out on a duck in the very first game but played a solid 26-ball 40-run knock against Chennai. Heading into the next game, you could expect him to play a big knock on Monday.
Jason Holder
Dushmantha Chameera had an awful day in the last game against Chennai. He went for 49 runs in 4 overs and also dropped a couple of catches. Ahead of the next game, Jason Holder is likely to replace him. The former West Indies skipper will provide a great balance to the batting unit and that should keep the team in a good place.
Ayush Badoni
Young 18-year old batter from Delhi has impressed one and all with his batting exploits in just two games. He has been brilliant so far, having played crucial knocks for the team in both games. Badoni can play shots all around the ground and certainly have the potential to become one of the greats of the games. It will be really interesting how he plays for the rest of the tournament.
KL Rahul (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Evin Lewis, Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, Krunal Pandya, Dushmantha Chameera/Jason Holder, Andrew Tye, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan

Pitch Report: The 12th match of the Indian T20 League between Hyderabad and Lucknow will be played at DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. As many as three matches have been held so far at this ground. The last game held here was played between Rajasthan and Mumbai. Jos Buttler scored a sensational ton and helped Rajasthan post a huge score of 193 runs. Once again, the bowlers are likely to have a tough time as a high-scoring contest is on the cards. Both teams winning the toss should look to bowl first.
