The Indian T20 League‘s tournament opener has been announced, with Chennai and Kolkata as the participants. The tournament is set to kick off on March 26 as requested by the broadcasting partner. The BCCI has recently announced the tournament’s start date, locations, and virtual groups.

In other news, the BCCI has decided to allow a crowd limit of 25 per cent for the initial few games of the Indian T20 League. The board had previously said that 25-50 per cent of the crowd would be allowed in the stadium.

As per the format, teams are divided into two groups of five. Each team will play a total of 14 games (7 home and 7 away). Based on the number of titles won and final appearances, the teams were divided into two groups. Each team will compete twice against teams from their own group and twice against the team in the same row from the opposite group. They will only face the opposite group’s remaining four teams once.

Meanwhile, the past two seasons of the event have been chaotic due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The whole 2020 season was held in the United Arab Emirates, and the second leg of the 2021 season was shifted to UAE after COVID-19 brought the tournament to a halt. The league matches of the 2022 season will be played in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune.

MCA Stadium in Pune and the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai will host 15 matches each, while the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai will host 20 matches each.
