“It is actually shocking” - Indian spinner on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma not getting farewell

Indian spinner Ravi Bishnoi has stated that he would have loved to see the Indian veteran batting duo, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, getting farewells as they bid adieu to T20Is and the longest format of the game.

While the duo retired from the T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, they later announced their Test retirement ahead of the England tour. However, the duo is active in the One Day format.

Speaking on the Game Changers podcast, Bishnoi has asserted that it was shocking not to see the Indian batting legends getting a farewell after they left the Test format. Moreover, he added that there is no one close to what the duo has achieved.

“It is actually shocking, because you always want to see them retire from the field. For such big legends, you want them to leave while still being on the field, that looks much better. And what both of them have done for India, in my view, there is no one even close,” Bishnoi said on the Game Changers podcast.

However, Bishnoi is optimistic about the veteran duo getting a farewell after they announce their retirement from the One-Day Internationals. He also talked about the duo creating a big void in the Indian team.

“You want them to get a good farewell, but maybe they will get that in ODIs as well, whenever they leave, whenever they want to. Because no one can tell you when you will retire. But it was shocking when both of them retired, because suddenly you feel like two spots have become empty, who will come and fulfil that?” he added.

Both Kohli and Rohit are expected to play the three-match ODI series against Australia Down Under in October later this year. However, it’s not clear if the duo will take part in the ODI World Cup in 2027.
