In very positive news for New Zealand Cricket fans, Kane Williamson has begun batting again. The Kiwi skipper was seen facing throwdowns in the nets once again. The Blackcaps batter is still recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. Williamson conveyed the news on his Instagram account in a video captioned, "Nice to be back in the nets with the bat in hand for a few throws.".

Williamson had suffered an ACL tear while playing for the Gujarat Titans (GT) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Williamson took a big jump to try and catch the ball off a shot hit by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Williamson saved the six but he did not land very well and had to be stretchered off the field. He did not take part in any subsequent IPL matches thereafter.

The New Zealand skipper had surgery in April. There were reports saying that even if he misses the bus to the World Cup in India, he will travel with the Kiwis as a mentor. The reports also said that Williamson remains very optimistic about his recovery and is leaving no stone unturned to try and get ready for the 2023 ODI World Cup. The opening game of the tournament will be played between England and New Zealand.

"Very much just trying to keep it week-to-week at the moment," Williamson had said in June. "I haven't had such a long-term injury before but talking to other people that have, the journey is a bit of a long one so if you look too far ahead, it probably can become a little bit daunting," Williamson was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

"Whereas, one week at a time, ticking off those small markers, those little wins that are nice to experience. But also knowing that the journey won't be completely smooth and you have a few setbacks along the way that you have to navigate," he added.
