Deepak Hooda has been having a great time with the bat in the last few months. During the Indian T20 League 2022, he scored 451 runs in 15 games for Lucknow. Last month, he hit his maiden T20I hundred against Ireland as well. In that innings, he hit nine fours and six sixes and punished the Irish bowlers in the process. In the first T20I against England, he hit 33 off 17 balls.

With such great form, he wasn't expected to be dropped from the playing XI. However, he was dropped in the second T20I with senior players joining the team. This was a shocking decision from the team management. However, it was done to accommodate Virat Kohli in the team. Notably, Hooda was batting at number three, and Kohli bats at the same position in the team.

The former India skipper is going through his worst patch with the bat. Several former cricketers were expecting him to be rested for the rest of the series and come back for the ODIs. The right-hander was expected to open the innings. However, the last-minute change meant that Rishabh Pant was opening the batting with the skipper Rohit Sharma.

The 33-year-old came out to bat at number three after Sharma's wicket. He got out to debutant Richard Gleeson after scoring only one run. With the kind of form his in or the lack of it, the fans weren't impressed by the team selection. They feel that it was a grave injustice to a man in form for a player with a reputation but no performance to show off-late.

One fan even joked about how he is given rest to prepare to lead the team on the Zimbabwe tour. For the unversed, the Men In Blue will play a few games in the Southern African country. For the series, it is reported that the first-choice players will be rested. The team might be coached by VVS Laxman, who was with the team on the Ireland tour.
