A week after India's disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 finals, the Indian Cricket Board has decided to extend Rahul Dravid's term as head coach of the Indian Cricket Team. The former India skipper will continue to head the team until further notice. The tournament will be hosted by West Indies and the United States of America together.

In a press release, the Indian Cricket Board revealed that, after a discussion with Dravid, it unanimously decided to extend his contract. Appreciating Dravid and VVS Laxman's work as NCA head and head coach boards, the board said, "The board acknowledges Dravid's instrumental role in moulding the Indian team and commends his exceptional professionalism. The Board also appreciates VVS Laxman for his exemplary roles as Head of NCA and as the stand-in Head Coach. Similar to their legendary on-field partnerships, Dravid and Laxman have worked closely to drive Indian cricket forward."

Speaking about his time with the team and the extent of his work, Dravid expressed happiness over the team's culture and performance. He said, "The last two years with Team India have been thoroughly memorable. Together, we have witnessed the highs and lows, and throughout this journey, support and camaraderie within the group have been phenomenal."

Further speaking about his role and the team's performance, Dravid said that the skill and talent India possesses are exceptional. The skills and talent that our team possesses are phenomenal, and what we've stressed is following the right process and sticking to our preparations, which has had a direct impact on the overall result. As we embrace new challenges post-World Cup, we remain committed to the pursuit of excellence, he added.

It's worth noting that, apart from Rahul Dravid, the tenure of bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, batting coach Vikram Rathore, and fielding coach T Dilip has also been extended. They will all assist Rahul Dravid and the Indian team in their pursuit of the 20-20 World Cup in Carrebians next year. However, Rohit Sharma's future as Indian skipper still remains in jeopardy.
