The Indian Cricket Board announced the squad for India’s tour of Zimbabwe on Saturday. Many big names have been rested from the team like captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja. India and Zimbabwe will clash in a three-match ODI series starting on 18th August. All three ODIs will be played at Harare Cricket Ground on August 18, 20 and 22, respectively.

Shikhar Dhawan has been named the captain of the side again in the absence of the other senior players.

Rahul Tripathi has been included in the ODI team for the first time. He was named in India's T20 squad for the Ireland tour and first T20 against England earlier but he didn't get a single chance to represent the national side.  Another notable inclusion in the squad was of the all-rounder Washington Sundar. The spin all-rounder is making a return to the cricket field after a big gap as he’s now recovered from his injury. Sundar last played an international match in February 2022 when he played an ODI game against the West Indies.

There were also reports of star batters KL Rahul and Virat Kohli being included in the squad for the tour prior to the squad announcement but the duo have not been included at all.

Another player who’s making his comeback after a long gap is all-rounder Deepak Chahar. The seam all-rounder was injured for a long time and even missed out from the Indian T20 League. The 29-year-old was out of action for almost six long months and is all set to make a comeback in the Zimbabwe series. He last played in a T20I against West Indies on February 20, 2022.

Indian squad for ODIs vs Zimbabwe: Shikhar Dhawan (Capt), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar.
