India will miss Rohit Sharma's T20 World Cup 2024 winning strategy in Asia Cup 2025, feels Mohammad Kaif

Former Indian cricketer and commentator Mohammad Kaif feels Team India will dearly miss Rohit Sharma’s T20 World Cup 2024 strategy at the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025 campaign, scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 9, in the United Arab Emirates.

Notably, India is scheduled to play its first game of the campaign against the hosts UAE on Wednesday, September 10, as it aims to defend their title. Meanwhile, Kaif took to his X handle to point out an interesting aspect that’s missing in the current Indian T20I side.

While the Rohit Sharma-led Indian T20I team had three genuine all-rounders in Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Hardik Pandya in the successful T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, the Indian T20I side, led by Suryakumar Yadav, has only Hardik and Axar as two all-rounders in the XI. Kaif also added that Washington Sundar will be missed in the XI.

“Rohit's team won the T20 World Cup with 3 all-rounders - Axar, Jadeja, Hardik - and that meant 6 proper bowling options and batting till 8. At the Asia Cup, with only 2 genuine all-rounders - Hardik and Axar, India will have to find a new winning combination. Washington Sundar will be missed,” Kaif wrote on his X account.

After announcing the Indian Asia Cup 2025 squad, the Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar had stated that since there are already three spinners part of the squad, they had to fit in Rinku Singh, an extra batter, and Washington Sundar has been included in the reserves.

"He's (Sundar) always been in the scheme of things. At the moment, we have two mystery spinners/wristspinners in Varun and Kuldeep, and Axar has been around for a while. When we need four spinners - he may always be in the mix. For now, we felt we needed an extra batter in Rinku. And you could only pick 15. If there were 16, maybe he could've been in," Agarkar had said in the press conference after announcing the squad.
