The 2023 Indian T20 League (ITL) season got off to a great start. Fans have seen nearly everything in the six games played so far. Speaking of the Chennai franchise, they had a terrible tournament debut, losing to the Gujarat franchise by a score of 5 wickets. Yet in their stronghold, Chepauk Stadium, they mounted a commanding return with a convincing victory over Lucknow.

In the two games that Chennai have played so far in the ITL 2023, batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been the team's star. With one win and one loss under their belts, the MS Dhoni-led team is presently ranked sixth in the points standings.

Young opener Gaikwad has been outstanding with the bat in both games, giving his team a thrilling start in both. His aggressive approach has been what has made his batting exceptional. Right away, the right-hander engages the bowlers and applies pressure.

Gaikwad was his team's lone warrior in the opening match against the defending champions Gujarat, playing a brilliant knock that helped them to a respectable total. On a pitch where other Chennai batters struggled to get going, the right-hander scored 92 runs in 50 balls while slamming 4 fours and 9 sixes.

But, in Chennai's second game, Gaikwad maintained his excellent form and gave his side a glorious start. With a devastating half-century, the batsman partnered with Devon Conway to score 110 runs in 31 balls. With three fours and four sixes, the Indian opener scored 57 runs.

Gaikwad is the tournament's leading scorer with 149 runs after recording two incredible half-centuries in the league. The opener stated that his main goal is to give the squad starts and that he has no interest in wearing the orange cap. He said:Β "I am not looking at Orange cap, need to give good starts & contribute to the team as we didn't have a good year in 2022. Suresh Raina is my inspiration; I want to be a consistent player for CSK like him."
