Pakistan came to the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023 as the favourites but failed to qualify for the final. In the ‘Super 4’ stage, they lost to India and Sri Lanka. The current Number one-ranked ODI team will look to do well in the upcoming ODI World Cup. But, they are yet to announce their squad.

Now, according to the recent reports of GeoNews, Abrar Ahmed might replace Shadab Khan in the final squad for the World Cup in India. Listening to such reports, fans shared their views on social media. Shadab Khan is known as one of the most certain players in the Pakistan team, especially in both the white ball formats.

Shadab Khan has played 64 ODIs so far for the Men in Green

However, he had a disappointing Asia Cup campaign. In five games, he had six wickets and scored 13 runs. Against Nepal, he was the star with a four-wicket haul but in all the other matches, he struggled to contain runs and take wickets in the middle overs. He has played 64 ODIs so far and taken 83 wickets. With the bat, Shadab has scored 734 runs, at an average of 26.21. On the other hand, the 25-year-old Abrar has played only 6 Tests so far for the Men in Green. In any white-ball format, he is yet to make a debut.

However, he has managed an impressive record so far in the longest format of the game with 38 wickets in 12 innings, including two fifers and one 10-fer. After Pakistan’s exit from the tournament, skipper Babar Azam said that the failure of Shadab to take wickets in the middle overs has been a major issue. He said: “Shadab is bowling very well but he is not taking any wicket. So that's why you feel he is not bowling well. He is bowling well by unfortunately he is not taking any wickets. He is one of your best bowlers, Nawaz and Shadab."
