Following a draw in the first match of the series, Pakistan is hosting New Zealand in the second Test match at the National Stadium in Karachi. Day 1 of the match has just ended, and it saw some great fighting spirit from New Zealand as well as a great comeback from Pakistan.
After winning the toss, the Kiwis elected to bat first on a wicket that appeared to be suitable for batting. The decision paid off handsomely for them, as Tom Latham and Devon Conway got them off to a great start. The two stole the show in the first session as each remained unbeaten. The two went on to add 134 runs for the first wicket partnership.
Tom Latham was the first to go, having scored 71 runs in 100 balls. Naseem Shah got the breakthrough wicket for the home side. As Kane Williamson joined Conway in the middle, the two formed yet another 100-run partnership in the match. The two remained unbeaten at tea on day one, with the opener completing his century.
The Kiwis appeared to dominate the first day on what was deemed yet another flat wicket. The team led by Babar Azam, on the other hand, fought back brilliantly in the final session of the first day. They conceded just 83 runs in the final session and took as many as five wickets, including well-set Devon Conway (122 runs in 191 balls) and Kane Williamson (36 runs in 191 balls).
The home team's spinners did the job, with Agha Salman taking three wickets in the final session and Abrar Ahmed taking one. Naseem Shah also got his second wicket of the match in the final session.
At the end of day one, the Black Caps had amassed a total of 309/6 in 90 overs. On day 2, Tom Blundell, who has 30 runs in 62 balls, and Ish Sodhi, who has 11 runs in 29 balls, will resume batting for New Zealand.

Very good last session from Pakistan. 5 wickets and a run rate of 2.67. New Zealand is at 309/6 and started very well. Abrar was pretty expensive today (picked 1) but Salman Agha fought well and had 3 wickets. Naseem picked 2 and pacers were brilliant today.#PAKvNZ

Before retiring, Virat Kohli too should play one series in Pakistan once. What a road it is and so easy to score runs, century from Devon Conway 🥱#PAKvNZ pic.twitter.com/MtYTgzQgz4
