Prithvi Shaw, who was once praised as the second Sachin Tendulkar for Team India, could play only five Tests, six ODIs, and a T20I for his national team. Furthermore, the former Indian opener went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction in November 2024.
To make things more surprising, he was also not part of the Mumbai squads in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy. Now, Punjab Kings batter Shashank Singh has opened up on what might have gone wrong for the Mumbai explosive batter. Notably, Shashank and Shaw played for Mumbai.
"Prithvi Shaw is underrated. If he goes back to his basics, he can achieve anything. I know him since he was 13, since I've played club cricket with him in Bombay. If you ask me what's wrong with him, he has a different perspective on a few things," Shashank said on the Shubhankar Mishra podcast.
"Maybe, he can change something about his work ethic, maybe sleep at 10 PM instead of 11 PM, maybe improve his diet. If he can accept and change some of these things, it would be the best thing for Indian cricket," Shashank added.
Furthermore, the Punjab Kings star batter has also advised Prithvi Shaw to surround around better people who can give him a good piece of advice.
"Maybe he already is (making the changes). He does not need me to advise him. He probably already has 10 better people giving him advice," Shashank went on to add.
It’s worth noting that Prithvi Shaw was last seen on the field during the DY Patil T20 2025 campaign when he led the Route Mobile team. He had set a base price of INR 75 Lakh in the IPL 2025 mega auction and went unsold, not finding bids from any team.
On the other hand, Shashank Singh will be seen donning the Punjab Kings jersey in IPL 2025, playing under Shreyas Iyer. Singh was PBKS’ first retention at INR 5.5 Crore.
