'I was dead scared when he walked up to me'- Suryakumar Yadav on his altercation with Virat Kohli

Impressive performances for years in the Indian T20 League helped Suryakumar Yadav finally made his India debut in the year 2021. The 31-year old has been prolific run score for Mumbai in the history of the tournament.

He played an instrumental role with the bat for Mumbai in 2019 edition of the Indian T20 League. Mumbai won that edition and Suryakumar Yadav stole the limelight with his masterclass exploits. He finished the season as the second highest run-getter for the team.

The Mumbai batter finished as the third highest run-getter in the following edition. He scored 480 runs in 16 matches that season while batting in the middle order for Mumbai. Suryakumar Yadav grabbed headlines on many occasions during that edition with his masterclass batting performance.

Unarguably, his best knock against Bangalore during that season, where he pulled out a magical knock, in a pursuit a 165-run target. He played an unbeaten 79-run knock in 43 balls to help his team chase down the score with five balls remaining in the end. The match is also famous for a standoff between him and Virat Kohli in the middle of his innings.

Speaking on Gaurav Kapur’s show, Breakfast with Champions, Suryakumar Yadav recalled that incident and revealed how exactly he felt when Virat Kohli walked up to him.

"...His sledging was on another level in that match. And I was focused that whatever happens, I have to win the match for the team, without speaking anything," the Mumbai batter said about the incident.

"I was dead scared inside when he walked towards me, I was chewing gum and my heart was racing. There was an inner voice that was telling me - whatever happens, don’t say a word, it's a matter of 10 seconds, this will be over soon and the next over will begin,” Surya went on with his story.

Suryakumar Yadav is currently the highest run-scorer for Mumbai in the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League. In just 4 games, he has managed to score 200 runs at an average of 66.67. However, despite his valiant knocks, Mumbai haven’t won a single game this season.
